STEM Project Summary
Feed the Mind has launched a STEM camp with an arts integration component (S.T.E.A.M.) for under served youth in the Dallas community. It is our mission to promote Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math during a hands-on, low-stakes, and highly engaging event that will cultivate an interest in these fields and present them as viable career options. With your support more than 100 students will get an opportunity to see how exciting and life-changing a STEM education can be for them and the community.
STEM jobs have grown three times faster than non-STEM jobs. However, only 36% of U.S. high school students are ready for college-level science and 31% of U.S. bachelor’s degrees are awarded in science and engineering fields. Furthermore, the statistics for minorities in STEM is even more staggering, with 7% receiving STEM degrees and 6% actually becoming STEM workers. This project will affect more than 100 under served and under represented student who reside in the city of Dallas.
Feed the Mind’s mission is to educate, elevate, equip and empower students. This project will expose the students we serve to the real life application of STEM. The students will participate in hands-on workshops. Students will learn about STEM jobs and how to be successful in high school and college. Students will complete and present a STEM project.
The project will educate over 100 minority students, which will potentially expose them to an entire STEM world they did not know existed or was not interested in. Our goal is to increase the number of minorities pursuing a STEM education and career so that they can improve their own standard of living as well as be positive contributing member of their community.
